THIS PAGE IS FOR ENGINEERS
You do not need this information to install the Rain Tracker in any
wiper control application.

We sell and support the Rain Tracker rain sensor only for automotive
applications, and can offer very little applications assistance for
other applications. The following describes the Rain Tracker serial
data output. The information is as-is, and no warranty of suitability
for any particular application is expressed or implied.

If you have a non-automotive rain sesnor application, please contact us about
our general-purpose Rain Gauge.

SENSOR OUTPUT COMMUNICATIONS PROTOCOL
Data is transmitted nominally 6 times per second.
Sensor output is active high (nominally 0.2 to 4V swing)
pulse of multiples of 10 mS duration. The MESSAGE value
is the pulse output duration divided by 10 mS. The
following table shows the meaning of the message signal:

MESSAGE
value Meaning
1 No Data
2 No Rain
3 Rain sensed, amplitude 1
4 Rain sensed, amplitude 2
5 Rain sensed, amplitude 3
6 Rain sensed, amplitude 4
7 Rain sensed, amplitude 5
8 Rain sensed, amplitude 6

SENSOR CONNECTOR
The sensor connectors are available from Digi-Key
Connector Housings
Digi-Key P/N WM2901 Molex P/N 50-57-9403
Connector Inserts
Digi-Key P/N WM2510 Molex P/N 19-02-0102
Suitable wire* 22 AWG stranded three conductor
Digi-Key P/N W121-X

* This is gray jacketed wire. Black jacketed wire is typically not
available off-the-shelf. Contact us if you have a special cable
requirement.
Sensor Connector Pin-out
1) Ground - Black
2) Sensor serial data - Green
3) +12V Red

The sensor cable is wired straight-through (1-1, 2-2, 3-3). Looking
into the male connector so that the locking tab is up, pin one is on
the right.

Sensor output is protected against indefinite short circuits to ground
and to supply voltage.
